Hewson-Stubbs Design A contemporary eye on tradition™
RESIDENTIAL DESIGN

Hewson-Stubbs Design Hewson-Stubbs commissions range from the redesign of a single room to the design, monitoring and restoration of complete properties. Richard’s strongest influence is the simplicity and elegance of the Georgian era and how this symmetry can be transferred to contemporary design. His experience also covers a number of late 19th and early 20th century styles.

Design projects cover furniture layout, colour scheme, floorings, lighting plan, window treatments and advice on details such as fireplaces, cabinetry, pictures and plasterwork.

The initial consultation involves getting a feel for the scale of the objectives and discussing the initial direction and scope of the project. Following this a brief is compiled which is later discussed and agreed with the client to ensure everyone involved is confident of the direction.

A provisional budget and a list of fees are included at this stage broken-down into each aspect of the project. At the second meeting design ideas are discussed and by the third initial schemes are discussed. The full design process typically takes five meetings over a period of three months.

Hewson-Stubbs DesignUsing an interior designer is cost effective. Not only do they have experience of putting together schemes - interior designers also have knowledge of periods and styles. Access to the products, services and craftsmen necessary to achieve the design ideal are another benefit of using a designer. This reduces the time the client needs to spend sourcing items and also saves the cost of expensive design mistakes.

Richard comments “the key to a successful design project is to listen to the client - the role of the designer is to interpret the clients’ ideas not to impose a style on them.”
